A late-1970s studio project that gave us the enduring hit "Daddy Cool."
For the full V.I.P. experience, start with "Daddy Cool" and then try "El Inmortal." That's the sound they nailed.
Frank Farian formed V.I.P. right after launching Boney M., and their sound captured that same peak-disco energy. Songs like "El Inmortal" and "It's My Nature" are pure 1977 dance-floor material. Their track "Daddy Cool" outlived the band, popping up in movies and TV long after disco faded.
The group put out three albums from 1977 to 1979, "Daddy Cool," "Sex Bomb," and "Sunshine Baby." The lineup shifted often, and they called it quits in 1981 as the scene moved on.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
