Virtude Impetuosa formed in 2005 in São Paulo with vocalist Luciano Costa, guitarist Alexandre Bastos, bassist José Carlos de Jesus, and drummer Fabio Maia. They started playing bars and clubs around the city, eventually releasing their first album 'Templo da Ira' in 2009. The band's sound was heavy metal from the beginning, straightforward and aggressive.
Their second album came out in 2013, titled 'Alcoolizado' after the song that would become their most well-known track. The song 'Alcoolizado' deals with alcohol abuse in blunt terms, and it connected with a particular audience in Brazil's metal scene. The band toured more extensively after that album's release.
Virtude Impetuosa has kept making music since then, putting out 'Ressaca' in 2017 and 'Último Gole' in 2022. Their lyrics and stage presence have sometimes drawn criticism from more conservative corners, including a reported ban from one show in Rio de Janeiro in 2015. They've generally responded by continuing to play the way they want to play.
