Visceral Fear

Visceral Fear formed in São Paulo in the early 1990s, with guitarist Luciano 'Lucho' Ferreira and bassist Rogério Goulart starting the project in 1991. Vocalist Rodrigo Bentes joined soon after, his guttural style becoming a key part of their sound. They were playing death metal when the Brazilian scene was still developing, building a following through live shows rather than studio polish.

Their debut album 'Desabafo' came out in 1996, a record that helped define Brazilian death metal at the time. Songs like 'Destemidos' and 'Nada Vai Nos Parar' showed their approach: heavy, direct, with lyrics that didn't shy away from darker themes. They kept recording through the late 90s and 2000s, putting out albums like 'Massacre' and 'Carved in Pain' without much mainstream attention but with steady support from metal listeners.

Visceral Fear's music sometimes drew criticism for its content, but it also found listeners who appreciated its unvarnished quality. They never became a commercial force, but in death metal circles, particularly in Brazil, their early work like 'Desabafo' maintained a certain standing.
