Vithor Costa formed his band in 1991, naming it after himself. Their debut album 'Quem Disse?' came out in 1993, anchored by the title track that became their calling card. The original lineup had Vithor on vocals and guitar, Xandão on drums, and Leo Camarão on bass.
They were based in São Paulo, though Vithor himself came from the coastal city of Santos. The band's sound shifted over time, moving from a grungier early approach toward more experimental territory. Later members included guitarist Mario Borriello and keyboardist Cleber Santana.
Some of their lyrics drew criticism for being too direct about certain subjects, but they kept working without much compromise. Their music found an audience among younger listeners in Brazil, particularly with songs like 'Who Says' from that first album.
