Vitor Barros

Vitor Barros comes from Itabaiana, a town in rural Brazil where he grew up in a farming family. He started playing guitar and singing early on, drawing from the traditional folk music around him. In the mid-1990s, he moved to São Paulo, where he eventually found an audience for his straightforward songs about country life.

His 2002 song "Meu Torrão Amado" became his best-known work, a simple tribute to rural land and people that connected with listeners across Brazil. Other tracks like "Que Calor" and "Vou Te Agarrar" follow a similar pattern, unadorned guitar work, plain vocals, and themes tied to the countryside.

Barros has put out six studio albums since 2002, including "Lápis de Cor" in 2005 and "Filho da Terra" in 2022. He performs with a small band that typically includes bass, drums, accordion, and percussion. While some have questioned whether his music simplifies rural experience, his supporters hear something genuine in it, a direct, unfussy take on a way of life that doesn't get much airtime in Brazil's cultural centers.
