Vitor C. A. Martins came up in Alcobaça, Bahia, where he grew up hearing samba, bossa nova, and axé around town. He sang in local choirs early on and started writing songs that pulled from those Brazilian traditions, with Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, and João Gilberto among his touchstones.
His debut single "Coração Pulsa" came out in 2015 and caught on quickly, topping charts in Brazil. The song also drew accusations that its melody was lifted from another artist, though that didn't slow its popularity much. He followed it with albums like "Azul Infinito" in 2018 and "Nação Amor" in 2021, and he's worked with singers like Ivete Sangalo.
Martins writes about love and social justice, and his other tracks include "Abra Os Meus Olhos." He keeps a fairly low profile outside his music, which still leans on the rhythms he heard growing up.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
