Viviane Chidid was born in Dakar in 1973 and started singing early, influenced by her father who played guitar. In the early 1990s she sang backup with Le Super Étoile de Youssou N'Dour before going solo a few years later. Her debut album Ndikane came out in 1995 and found an audience in Senegal and beyond.
Her music works with mbalax rhythms, the percussive style central to Senegalese pop, and she often writes about social issues and women's lives. The 2012 single No Stress is one of her better-known tracks. She's released several albums since, including Saf, Manel, Aladji, and Nene.
She performs with a band that has included drummer Pape Fall, bassist Leandro, and keyboardist Mass Seck. Her shows are known for their dancing and energy.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
