Viviane Santana came from São Miguel do Oeste and started singing traditional music from her region. Her 1998 debut album 'Sonhos e Saudades' included 'Saudade da Igrejinha,' a melancholic ballad about longing for a lost love that became widely popular in Brazil.
She recorded other songs like 'Crucificação' and 'Jamais Vou Te Esquecer,' and released several albums including 'Viviane Santana ao Vivo' in 2003 and 'De Volta ao Sertão' in 2007. In 2002, there was a legal dispute over the authorship of 'Saudade da Igrejinha' that was eventually resolved in her favor.
Her live performances were known for their energy, and she continued recording with albums like 'Raízes' in 2015.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
