Vladi Du Kavako formed in Recife, Pernambuco in the late 1990s. The band included Vladmir de Oliveira on vocals and guitar, Eliane de Oliveira on backing vocals and percussion, Edvaldo Santana on bass, and Saulo Xavier on drums. Their sound mixed Brazilian rhythms with rock elements, sometimes called "Forró Rock."
Their debut album in 1999 shared its name with the song "Quando Tocar Meu Violão," which became a hit. The track dealt with heartbreak and loss. Some critics questioned how the band used traditional Brazilian music, while Vladi argued they were adapting those sounds for a modern setting.
In 2003, bassist Edvaldo Santana died in an accident. The band continued afterward, with Vladmir handling bass parts. They recorded other songs like "A Melodia do Que Sinto" and "Chegou sabadão."
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
