Volunteer

Volunteer was a band formed in the 1970s, originally called The Volunteers. Gordon Haskell sang and wrote songs for the group, with Michael Been on guitar, Larry Gordon on bass, and Peter Hilton on drums. Their first album was called 'The Volunteers,' and they later released records simply titled 'Volunteer' and 'The Way Back.'

Their song 'Forever, I Am Yours' came out in 1972 and became their most recognizable track. It's the kind of song people remember for its direct emotional pull. They also recorded other material like 'Found You In The Fire' and 'In The Unknown,' which carried a similar earnest quality.

Their music didn't follow one clear genre path, it had elements of folk and rock, but mostly it felt like straightforward songwriting built around Haskell's voice and lyrics.

By the late 1970s, Volunteer's activity slowed down, though their songs continued to find listeners who responded to that unadorned, heartfelt approach. 'Forever, I Am Yours' in particular kept circulating, getting covered by other artists and appearing on various collections of 1970s music.
