Volxsturm

Volxsturm formed in 1999 in Halberstadt, Germany, with René Butzke on vocals, Frank Will on guitar, and Holger Gerlach on drums. Their music often dealt with German history and identity, which put them at the center of debate from the start. They released four studio albums between 2005 and 2014, including 'Heimkehr' and 'Feuerland'.

Songs like 'Heimat' and 'Auf Wiedersehen' carried the band's raw, martial sound, drawing from German folk traditions as well as punk and industrial music. Their lyrics about national identity and historical legacy were sometimes accused of flirting with far-right ideas, though the band maintained they were meant to provoke discussion rather than endorse any ideology.

Butzke, Will, and Gerlach remained the core members through lineup changes, and they occasionally worked with artists from the neo-folk scene. Volxsturm's music became a cultural flashpoint in Germany, admired by some for its artistic boldness and criticized by others for its charged themes.
