Von formed in Sweden in 1998, with vocalist and guitarist Jonas Almqvist, who uses the stage name Satanachia. The band's early lineup included a drummer called V-Von and a bassist called Skeleton. Their first album, 'Satanic Blood,' came out the following year. Songs like 'Watain' and 'Devil Pig' established their sound, which is built around guttural vocals and distorted guitars.
They've released several albums since, including 'Veni Vidi Vici' in 2002 and 'Dark Gods' in 2014. The music often deals with anti-Christian themes and graphic violence, which has drawn criticism and accusations of hate speech over time. The band has argued this is an expression of personal philosophy.
Satanachia has been the only constant member through various lineup changes. The group has continued to tour and record, with bassist Damned joining at some point. Their work, including tracks like 'Blood Angel' and 'Ancient Flesh Of The Dark Gods,' maintains a raw, uncompromising style that has kept them a cult presence in black metal.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
