The Von Hertzen Brothers are a Finnish rock band formed in 2000 by three siblings from Espoo: Mikko, Kie, and Jonne. They started playing together in their hometown, working through the usual early struggles of finding an audience. Their third album, "Love Remains the Same" from 2008, got them noticed more widely in Finland.
Their music pulls from progressive rock and folk, with some melodic metal textures in the mix. You can hear it in songs like "New Day Rising" and "Angel's Eyes", layered guitars, atmospheric keyboards, and vocals that shift between anthemic and introspective. They've mentioned listening to everything from Yes and King Crimson to Bob Dylan and Radiohead, which shows in how their sound avoids sticking to one lane.
They've put out six studio albums, including "Stars Align" in 2011 and "War Is Over" in 2017. The band tours regularly across Europe and has played shows in Asia and South America too. In 2017, there was some noise about "New Day Rising" sounding similar to an Amorphis track, but those claims didn't stick around.
Mostly, they keep making records and playing live. The three brothers still handle vocals, guitars, bass, and keyboards themselves.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
