Voodoocult

Voodoocult formed in Edinburgh around 1988, originally calling themselves the Serpent. The Scottish quartet featured Adam Sinclair on vocals, Tony Bickerton on guitar, Chris McKenzie on bass, and Mark McClune on drums. They built a following with their live shows before releasing their first album in 1994.

That debut was called "Jesus for Breakfast," and its title track got some radio play. The band toured after that, playing shows with acts like Placebo and Blur. Their second album came out two years later and included the song "Albert Is A Headbanger," which became their best-known track. Other songs from that period include "Art Groupie" and "Born Bad & Sliced."

Some critics at the time said Voodoocult's sound borrowed from older bands like The Doors. Sinclair pushed back against that, defending what they were doing. The band's music had a brooding, melodic quality, with Sinclair's vocals out front.
