Vow Wow formed in 1982 when guitarist Kyoji Yamamoto and bassist Toshihiro Niimi, both previously in Bow Wow, started the band with vocalist Genki Hitomi and drummer Tetsurou Kawauchi. They released their self-titled debut album in 1984. Hitomi left the following year and was replaced by Eiji 'Zips' Toda.
Their third album, 'Signs of the Times,' came out in 1986. The title track became their best-known song, a power ballad that helped them reach audiences outside Japan. Other songs from that period include 'Turn On The Night' and 'Stay Close Tonight.'
By the early 1990s, the band was dealing with plagiarism allegations and unauthorized cover songs, which affected their standing. They kept recording through the decade, with songs like 'Doncha Wanna Cum (Hangar 15)' appearing in their catalog.
