VP Crew formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2012 around three members: Velho Punk (Rafael dos Santos), Paloma (Paloma Mendonça), and Professor (Bruno Leal). They started as a Brazilian hip-hop group working with straightforward beats and lyrics.
Their 2014 single "A Meu Favor" connected with listeners in Brazil, becoming something of an anthem. The song appears on their 2016 album "Não É o Fim," which mixed hip-hop with some funk and reggae touches. They followed that with "Geração Perdida" in 2017 and "Nós por Nós" in 2019.
In 2018, they released a track called "Bla Bla Bla" that commented on the Marielle Franco case, which stirred some political debate. Over time, other musicians like DJ Leo and percussionist Rael joined their live shows. They've also worked with artists including Karol Conká and Diogo Nogueira.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
