Vredes Maggot formed in Brescia, Italy in 1993 with Simone Salati on vocals, Nicola Pietrangeli on guitar, Andrea Berti on bass, and Matteo Pasquali on drums. They played a mix of black, death, and thrash metal that didn't fit neatly into any one scene at the time.
In 1999 they released an album called "Kaballeros del Zodiaco," named after the Saint Seiya anime series. The title track "Caballeros Del Zodiaco (Saint Seiya)" was a heavy metal version of the anime's theme that found an audience beyond their usual listeners.
They maintained the music was just an expression of their views rather than any kind of endorsement.
