V.S.D. formed in Porto, Portugal in 2001 with vocalist Ricardo Martins, guitarist António Cristo, bassist João Louro, and drummer Luís Carvalho. The band's name stands for Vice, Sadness, Desire, which gives a sense of the emotional territory they explored. They released their debut album in 2004, titled 'É Mais Fácil Amar' after its lead track.
That song, 'É Mais Fácil Amar,' became something of an anthem in Portugal, connecting with listeners through its raw, vulnerable quality. The band followed it with several more albums over the next decade, including 'A Divindade dos Insetos' in 2006 and 'Paraíso e Inferno' in 2008, continuing to work with themes of love, loss, and darker introspection.
Their music drew some criticism for its bleak tone, but they maintained a consistent artistic approach throughout their active years. The four original members remained the core creative force, with Martins' distinctive vocals and Cristo's guitar work defining much of their sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
