Wacka Flocka Flame, born Juaquin James Malphurs, grew up in Clayton County, Georgia after being born in South Jamaica, Queens. He came up listening to southern hip-hop acts like Outkast and T.I. His 2009 single 'O Let's Do It' got him a deal with Warner Bros. Records, and his debut album 'Flockaveli' came out the next year.
In 2010, he released 'Hard In Da Paint,' which became his biggest track. The song's heavy bass and raw delivery connected with listeners and helped define the trap sound that was coming out of Atlanta at the time. He kept putting out albums through the 2010s, including 'Triple F Life' in 2012 and 'Flockaveli 2' in 2014.
Wacka Flocka's music often drew from street life, and his aggressive style made him a recognizable voice in that era of rap. He worked with Gucci Mane on the 2011 project 'Ferrari Boyz.' While he faced some legal issues and criticism over his lyrics, he maintained a steady output of music throughout the decade.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
