Wagner Nascimento was born in Santo André, Brazil in 1953. He started playing guitar and singing in the streets, drawing from samba, bossa nova, and local folk traditions.
In the early 1980s, he released 'Cabelo Mareado,' a ballad that became his breakthrough. Other songs from that period include 'Água Na Calha,' 'Catinguelê Menino,' and 'Chão Rachado.'
Nascimento faced accusations of plagiarism and drug use during his career, which affected his reputation. He kept recording through the mid-1980s, putting out albums like 'Bailado dos Vagabundos' and 'Contos de um Vagabundo.'
His music often dealt with themes of wandering, love, and loss. The raw emotional quality in songs like 'Grão de Areia' and 'Dono da Estrada' has kept his work in circulation among Brazilian listeners.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
