Waily y Chapa formed in the late 1980s when Waily Barba and Chapa Córdova met in a small town in Jalisco, Mexico. Their debut album came out in 1994, which included the song "Amor Sincero." That track became a national hit, though its explicit lyrics drew some criticism at the time.
They followed that album with others like "Siempre Contigo" in 1997, "Enamorados" in 2000, and "Corazón Bandido" in 2006. Barba handled most of the lead vocals and songwriting, while Córdova played multiple instruments and provided backing vocals.
Both members faced personal difficulties over time, with Barba dealing with health and addiction issues and Córdova encountering financial problems. They kept working together through those challenges, maintaining the vocal harmonies that defined their sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
