Waiting For Mary formed in Salt Lake City in 1996 when Chris Bennion, Scott Johnson, and Matt White started playing together. They were listening to Radiohead, Sigur Rós, and Porcupine Tree around that time.
Their first album came out in 1998, also called 'Waiting For Mary.' The single 'Without Words' got some attention on alternative rock stations that year.
They played local shows in Utah for a while, building up a small following before that album came out. The music had an atmospheric quality, with melodies that felt a bit melancholy and lyrics that leaned introspective.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
