Wake formed in the late 1990s as a trio with Rhea Valtari on vocals, Aidan Grey on guitar, and Jasper Black on bass. Their debut album 'Echoes in Silence' came out in 1999, establishing a sound built around Valtari's classically trained voice and Grey's atmospheric guitar work.
They released 'Vessels' in 2002, followed by the 2005 album 'Love Strings' that featured their most recognizable song of the same name. Some critics found their music too somber or their lyrics too cryptic, but that didn't stop them from developing a dedicated following.
Their final album 'Aetheric' arrived in 2008, continuing with the ethereal quality that had become their hallmark.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
