Dead End Utopia

Is this freedom

Or a collective heart attack?

Is this a new beginning

Or an illusion turned to black?

No moving back, no moving forth

Still postponing a meltdown that happened long ago

Have we fallen out of memory

Are we too petrified to dance to our own melody?

The misery in the streets is the sight of a dead end street in history

Is this the end, a collateral damage or productive disharmony?

As they close up the borders the horizon is shut down

If you're inside you'll dry out, if you're outside you will drown

There are no tales left to tell

We have forgotten the stories

Forgotten the time when there still was a tomorrow

The skies are bare of any guiding star to follow

We still wear the cloak that became an iron cage

As if it were the honour of our race

The self-righteous lost their triumphant conceit

Their sole victory became our common defeat

Do we still think this will end for good

While there is yet no ground beneath our foot

We should rejoice in contributing our share

To an enterprise that right from the start was as lie

Inequality and injustice for all

This utopia is gone awry

The revenants of our downfall

Haunting our numb memory

Is this freedom

Or a collective heart attack?

Is this a new beginning

Or is the end just turning back?

Now we are forced to see that this never ran straight

That from the very beginning it was already too late

Do we want the freedom

Which we have decreed?
