Wallace Rhoy was a Brazilian band named after its founder, a self-taught musician who began writing songs about social and political issues. They worked as a collective with several other musicians, including vocalist Maria das Graças, bassist Maurício Godinho, drummer Josias de Assis, and percussionist Elizeu de Paula.
One of their better-known songs is 'Sou Um Instrumento,' which translates to 'I Am an Instrument.' The track became associated with resistance movements of the time. Another song, 'Rendido Aos Teus Pés,' appears in their catalog as well.
They recorded a handful of albums, including 'Nós, Negras' and 'Um Canto de Liberdade.' The music blended elements of Brazilian styles like samba and bossa nova with lyrics that addressed social struggles. Their work found an audience among listeners who connected with those themes.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
