Wallachia started in 1997 in Târgoviște, Romania, originally called Illusion. The band changed its name to Wallachia in 2002, referencing the historical region. Their first album, "Enter the Wallachia," came out in 2003, mixing heavy metal with Romanian folk touches. The lineup has stayed consistent with vocalist Cristi Bogza, guitarists Marian Toader and Marius Vlad, bassist Marian Oprișan, and drummer Vincze Árpád.
They built a following with albums like "The Quest for Transylvania" in 2005 and "Dominus Noster" in 2008, and toured in Europe and the U.S., playing with bands like Soulfly and Testament. In 2009, Bogza faced a brief arrest in the U.S. over visa issues, but the group kept releasing music, including "Raptus" in 2010 and "Asylum" in 2014.
Later albums such as "Pitch Black Dawn" in 2018 and "Aeon" in 2022 show their ongoing output. Songs like "Eu Te Esperei Amor" and "Fullmåne Over Fagaras" reflect their blend of metal and folk influences, without much fuss or grand claims about their place in music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
