Archive material and source history
Waltinho Águia do Forró was born Waldemar Rodrigues da Silva in 1966 in Olho d'Água do Borges, Bahia. His father played accordion and his mother sang, so forró was part of the household from the start. By age ten he'd formed a band called Os Mirim do Forró with friends from the area, playing local festivals.
His debut album 'Coração' came out in 1995, and the title track became a hit. That song, a ballad about love and longing, helped push him to a wider audience. He's recorded more than twenty albums since, including a live set from Salvador in 2022.
For a time in 2004 he faced plagiarism accusations over a song called 'Lua Vai Nascer,' though the matter was eventually dropped. He's worked regularly with accordionist Raimundo Benevides, whose playing has been a steady part of the band's sound.
