Op een heuvel, langs de Moldau, hartje Praag
stond de burcht van een rijk en machtig man!
Met meer dan duizend dienaars en een eigen kathedraal
was de koning van Bohemen, de baas van allemaal
Koning Rudolf was een exentrieke vorst
die meer gaf om kunsten dan z'n rijk.
Maar voor hij een beslissing nam aanhoorde hij de raad
van z'n hofhouding geleerden want die stonden steeds paraat.
Hij had een astronoom en ook een astroloog,
Die maakten heel vaak ruzie over sterren, hoog.
Een cartograaf, een wijze alchemist,
Alleen ontbrak hem nog een kabbalist.
Heel Bohemen luisterde gespannen naar
Ieder woord uit zijn koninklijke mond.
En als een vraag gesteld werd, dan dacht hij heel lang na
Want z'n hofhouding besprak het, hij besliste pas daarna.
Na een dag van moeilijke beslissingen
Kwamen kunsten eindelijk aan bod.
Dus iedereen verzamelde al in de Ruiterzaal
voor een elegante danspas na een overvloedig maal.
Dan sprak de theoloog er met de filosoof
maar dat ging heel moeilijk want die was goed doof.
Naast de bioloog zat dan de quirrilist
maar wat die deed is wat niemand wist!
Koning Rudolf was een exentrieke vorst
die meer gaf om kunsten dan z'n rijk.
Maar voor hij een beslissing nam aanhoorde hij de raad
van z'n hoffilosofen,
astrologen, theologen
occultisten, spiritisten,
economen, astronomen,
alchemisten, herboristen,
want die stonden steeds paraat!
