Archive material and source history

Wank formed in 1999 in Kanagawa, Japan, with vocalist Kouta Shouji, guitarist Shougo Suzuki, bassist Teruaki Ishihara, and drummer Daisuke Shida. Their early singles like "Jump" and "Tears" established them in the Japanese pop-rock scene. In 2006, their song "Best Friend" faced plagiarism allegations that were eventually resolved.

Drummer Daisuke Shida left the band in 2009, and Toshiaki Hirose replaced him. Over time, their sound expanded beyond straightforward pop-rock to incorporate R&B, soul, and funk elements.
