Editor's note

Warhorse's Chicago speed metal fury

A late-1970s Chicago band that played fast, aggressive music called speed metal.

For a sense of their sound, 'Scrape' and 'Black Acid Prophecy' give you the picture. It's all there in those tracks.

Warhorse came out of Chicago playing a fast, aggressive style that got called speed metal. Their 1985 album 'Black Acid Prophecy' included songs like 'Scrape' and 'Miss Jane,' and their lyrics and imagery sometimes drew criticism from conservative groups. They also had legal trouble over a song called 'Dark Angel' being used in a film without permission.

The original lineup had Dave Eckert on vocals, Jerry Montano and Homer Fontes on guitars, Rusty Day on bass, and Bob Didomenico on drums. Their first album was 'Fury of the Wastelands' in the late 1970s, followed by 'Black Acid Prophecy' in 1985.
