A Los Angeles hard rock group that broke through with power ballads and kept recording through lineup changes.
For a quick sense of their sound, 'Heaven' captures the power ballad side, while 'The Bitter Pill' shows their later rock edge.
Warrant's 1989 debut 'Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich' had a moderate hit with 'Down Boys,' but it was the ballad 'Heaven' that broke through, landing in the Billboard Hot 100's top 10. Their 1990 follow-up 'Cherry Pie' became their signature release, with other singles like 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' keeping them on rock radio. Later albums like 'Dog Eat Dog' included songs such as 'The Bitter Pill' and 'Stronger Now' from their top tracks list.
Warrant came out of Los Angeles in the late 1980s with Jani Lane on vocals, guitarists Joey Allen and Erik Turner, bassist Jerry Dixon, and drummer Steven Sweet. Their early success with 'Heaven' and 'Cherry Pie' was followed by later albums like 'Ultraphobic,' with Lane leaving the band before his death in 2011. The current lineup still features original members Turner, Allen, Dixon, and Sweet.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
