Watson Live formed in Spain in the early 1980s around singer-songwriter José Manuel Cantero. They started playing in underground clubs, facing some resistance from conservative elements at the time. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1987, featuring songs like 'Hoy Te Has Marchado de Aquí,' which became their most recognizable track.
That song, along with others such as 'Ahora Regresas Tú' and 'Amor de Adolescentes,' helped build their audience. The band released several more albums through the 1990s, including 'La Inspiración' in 1990 and 'El Viaje' in 1993. Their lineup included guitarist Antonio García de Diego, bassist Pedro Sánchez, and drummer Carlos Guardado.
In 2002, there was a plagiarism claim involving the heirs of poet Federico García Lorca, but it was dismissed. Watson Live kept performing and released a compilation in 2000 and a 20th-anniversary collection in 2007.
