He was born Wayne Anthony Ignatius Lewis in Kingston in 1956. His 1995 song "Saddest Day" became a major hit in Jamaica, known for its melancholy take on love and loss.
He has released albums such as "Sweet Reggae Music" in 1980 and "Love and Happiness" in 2001. Other songs include "No Letting Go" and "Bonafide Love," the latter featuring Buju Banton. In 1996, he was arrested for marijuana possession and spent a short time in jail.
In more recent years, he has performed with musicians like bassist Robbie Shakespeare and drummer Sly Dunbar. He has also recorded with artists including Beenie Man and Elephant Man.
