We Should Whisper formed in 2011 with Salik Khan on vocals and guitar, Ryan Mullikin on bass, and John Michael Rouchell on drums. They put out an EP called 'Memories of a Distant Past' that year, followed by another called 'Spires' in 2013. Their sound leaned toward atmospheric melodies and introspective lyrics from the start.
In 2015, the single '6 AM' got them wider attention. The song's moody feel and direct lyrics connected with listeners, becoming one of their most recognizable tracks. Other songs like 'Madelyne (I Hate How I Love)' and 'Open Up To Me' followed a similar emotional vein.
The band's lineup saw some changes over time, and their music occasionally shifted between ethereal and more experimental directions. They kept working in Los Angeles, putting out material that stayed focused on that atmospheric, lyrically driven sound they established early on.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
