We The Kings formed in Bradenton, Florida in 2005. Their 2007 single "Check Yes Juliet" broke through, landing in the Billboard Hot 100's top 40, and their self-titled debut album followed in 2008. The original lineup included Travis Clark on vocals, Hunter and Drew Thomsen on guitars, Charles Trippy on bass, and Danny Duncan on drums.
Bassist Charles Trippy left the band in 2011. Danny Duncan moved to bass, and Derek Sanders joined as the new drummer. Around 2012, their song "Sad Song" drew criticism for its handling of mental health themes, which the band addressed by saying it was meant to reflect real experiences.
They've put out five studio albums, including 'Smile Kid' in 2010 and 'Six' in 2016. Songs like "Friday Is Forever" and "Just Keep Breathing" show their pop-punk leanings, while later work like "Anna Maria (All We Need)" has a brighter, more pop-oriented feel. The current members are Travis Clark, Hunter Thomsen, Drew Thomsen, Danny Duncan, and Derek Sanders.
