Weeping Tile formed in Toronto around 2005 with Meghan Reinders on vocals and guitar, Evan Ladd on guitar, and Michael Johnstone on bass. Their debut album 'Paper Thin' came out in 2008, and one of its tracks, 'Basement Apartment,' became a particular point of reference for listeners. The band's sound had a sparse, raw quality that suited Reinders' vocal delivery.
Johnstone left in 2012, and the band continued with Reinders and Ladd. They put out a second album, 'In Your Dreams,' in 2015. By 2017, the lineup included new members Andrew Keates on guitar and Andrew Scott on bass. This version of the group released a third album called 'The Light in the Water' in 2019.
Songs like 'Joint Account,' 'Judy G.,' and 'South Of Me' are part of their catalog. The music often deals with interior states and relationships, delivered with a direct, unfussy approach that avoids grand production.
