Background notes

Archive material and source history

Wesley & Helden formed in 2002 when Wesley Matos and Helden Freitas started playing together in Pará. They worked out their sound by performing at local gatherings and festivals around their home state.

Their music draws from Amazonian rhythms like carimbó and merengue, with lyrics that often touch on the region's landscapes and people. The song "Tela Azul" became their breakout track in 2017.

They released their first album, "Você Não Sabe," in 2012, followed by "Meu Nome É" in 2014 and "Amazonia" in 2016. Matos handles vocals and songwriting while Freitas plays guitar and arranges their material.
