Archive material and source history
West, Bruce & Laing formed in 1972 when guitarist Leslie West and vocalist Jack Bruce, who had worked together on the album 'Why Dontcha Step Inside,' brought in drummer Corky Laing. Their self-titled debut came out that same year, featuring songs like 'While You Sleep.' The trio's sound pulled from blues and rock, with West's guitar work and Bruce's vocals at the front.
They released a few more albums before splitting up in 1976. 'Whatever Turns You On' arrived in 1973, and 'Live 'n Kickin'' followed in 1974. Their final studio record was 'Native Sons' in 1976. The group dealt with internal tensions during their run, including a reported feud between West and Laing over drum kit issues that contributed to Laing leaving in 1974.
After the breakup, the members pursued other projects. The band's recordings, particularly their early work, still get played by fans of 1970s rock.
