Archive material and source history

Western Addiction formed in 2006 with a lineup that included Jason Lytle on vocals and guitar, Eric Earley on bass, and Frank Lenz on drums. Lytle had been part of Grandaddy, and Earley played with Blitzen Trapper. Their sound pulled from indie rock, folk, and punk, giving their music a rough, urgent feel.

They put out two albums, Cobwebs in 2007 and Western Addiction in 2009. Songs like 'A Poor Recipe For Civic Cohesion' and 'Face Cancer' carried sharp, direct lyrics that often took on social and political themes. The writing wasn't subtle, and it sparked plenty of debate at the time.

Western Addiction didn't last long as a band, but those two records left a distinct impression. They played with a kind of frayed energy that felt genuine, and the songs still sound like they were written in a hurry, for better or worse.
