Westside Gunn is Alvin Lamar Worthy from Buffalo's Bailey-Delavan neighborhood. He started putting out music in the mid-2010s, and his 2016 mixtape 'Flygod' got some attention in underground hip-hop circles. A couple years later, 'Supreme Blientele' followed.
He raps over soulful, gritty beats, and his lyrics often touch on street life and personal history. Songs like 'Whoopy' and 'Michael Irvin' show his style: a raw, conversational flow and detailed storytelling.
Gunn is part of the Griselda collective with his brother Conway the Machine and Benny the Butcher, both also from Buffalo. They've put out a series of projects that lean into a specific New York sound, with Gunn featuring on tracks like 'Undertaker vs. Goldberg'.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
