What Made Milwaukee Famous formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1995, starting with Jason Tate on vocals and guitar and Dave Schoepke on bass. They later added drummer Ernest Salaz and guitarist Chris Hainey. Their debut album 'The Widow's Peak' came out in 1999, featuring the track 'And the Grief Goes On...' which got some attention in alternative rock circles.
Their songs like 'Blood, Sweat & Fears' and 'Cheap Wine' had a raw, atmospheric quality with Tate's vocals carrying a certain intensity. The band put out a few more albums after their debut, including 'What Doesn't Kill You...' in 2002.
Some listeners found their material challenging, while others were drawn to its emotional directness. They remained a Milwaukee-based act throughout their run.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
