White Hinterland

White Hinterland is the project of musician Casey Dienel, who started recording under that name in the mid-2000s. Her early work had a homespun, folk-influenced feel, often built around piano and her distinctive, airy voice. Songs like "Begin Again" and "Hung On A Thin Thread" from that period show a knack for intimate, melodic songwriting.

Her sound shifted with the 2010 album "Kairos," which introduced more electronic textures and rhythmic complexity. This was followed by "Baby," which featured the single "Icarus", a track that blends layered vocal loops with a minimalist, percussive drive. The production became more atmospheric and beat-oriented, moving away from the straightforward folk of her earliest recordings.

Later work, including the 2014 album "Baby," continued this exploration of electronic pop and R&B influences. Tracks like "Bow & Arrow" and "Ring the Bell" use vocal sampling and synth layers to create a denser, more textured backdrop for her singing. The music often feels both delicate and rhythmically insistent, a balance that has defined much of her output under the White Hinterland name.
