White Plains formed in 1964 with Tony Backham on vocals and guitar, Jack Williams on lead guitar, Pete Halsem on bass, and Dave Goldberg on drums. Their debut single 'My Baby Loves Lovin'' became a hit, and they followed it with songs like 'Every Little Move She Makes' and 'Julie Do Ya Love Me.'
Backham's vocal style was a central part of their sound, and he left the group in 1972 to work on solo material. The band continued with various lineup changes including Alan Thompson on keyboards and John G. Perry on guitar, releasing albums like 'Once Upon a Time' and their self-titled record.
They kept touring through the mid-1970s, though their later work didn't reach the same commercial level as those early singles. The songs from that first period have held up as straightforward pop from that era.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
