Wiese formed in Berlin in the early 2000s with vocalist Amelia Hayes, guitarist Ethan James, bassist Lukas Schmidt, and drummer Noah Wilson. Their debut album 'Echoes of a Dream' came out in 2006, featuring the single 'Never Let Me Go.' That song's hushed vocals and shimmering guitar lines gave a good sense of what they were doing.
They put out several more albums over the next decade, including 'The Silent Ocean' in 2008 and 'Aether' in 2010. The lineup changed when Samuel Cohen replaced Schmidt on bass in 2009. Their sound stayed in that atmospheric, dream-pop space, built around Hayes's voice and James's guitar work.
Some critics found their music overly somber, but they kept at it, releasing 'Ashes and Embers' in 2013 and 'Echoes of Time' in 2016. They never really broke into a wider commercial sphere, but their records found listeners who connected with that particular mood.
