WigWam started in Helsinki in 1974 with Jukka Gustafsson on vocals, Pekka Rechardt on guitar, Ronnie Österberg on bass, and Ronnie Scavo on drums. They built a following in Finland with live shows that leaned into hard rock and progressive touches, and put out their first album in 1975. The title track 'Wigwam' stuck around as a straightforward rock tune that caught on locally.
They kept recording through the mid-1970s with albums like 'Nuclear Nightclub' and 'Dark Album', but the original lineup didn't hold. Internal tensions and shifts in membership led to a breakup by 1978. The band reformed at points in the 1980s and 1990s, and again more steadily after 2006 with Gustafsson and Rechardt still involved, adding players like Mats Huldén on bass. They've put out later records such as 'Somethin' Magic' in 2010.
