Wiil Pow formed in São Paulo in 2016 around Willian Rodrigues, who goes by Wiil. Their 2018 track 'Desculpa Mãe 2' became a breakout hit in Brazil, with its mix of hip-hop and funk rhythms and lyrics that spoke to a younger generation.
Beyond that single, the group has released other songs like 'Brinquedo de Ferro' and 'Vá Com Deus'. Their music often draws from Brazilian street sounds and favela life, which has sometimes drawn criticism for its content. Wiil has said the lyrics reflect real experiences.
The band includes Wiil on vocals, along with Gabriel Lopes on drums, Lucas Gabriel on bass, and Maycon Nunes on guitar. They've put out several albums, including 'Nois é da Favela' in 2019 and 'De Volta pro Baile' in 2020.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
