Wil Leican was born Wildiley Batista Leican in Juará, Bahia, in Brazil's northeast. He started performing locally at 13, picking up the rhythms of forró and sertanejo that were common around him. In 2018, he formed a group with accordionist Berg da Paraíba and bassist Joãozinho da Paraíba, playing a mix of piseiro, forró, and sertanejo that caught on in their region.
Their 2020 track 'Piseiro da Senhorita' with Biu do Piseiro became a breakout hit, topping charts and getting heavy airplay across Brazil. That song pushed Wil Leican to national attention within the piseiro scene. They followed it with albums like 'Romance no Piseiro' in 2021 and 'O Baile do Wil' in 2022, and have worked with other Brazilian artists including Xand Avião and Tarcísio do Acordeon.
