Willy Anttunes started playing music in Pernambuco, in northeastern Brazil. In the 1980s, he and percussionist Naná Vasconcelos formed an experimental band called A Barca Maluca. He went solo in 1995 with an album called 'Fogo e Paixao.'
His second album, 'A Mensagem,' came out in 1997. The title track became a hit in Brazil. Other songs from around that time include 'Boi Michael' and 'Século XXI.'
Some of his lyrics dealt with social issues and drew criticism. He defended the work as part of his approach to music. He kept recording after that, with songs like 'Formiga Operária' and 'Novo tempo' appearing in his catalog.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
