Wilson Phillips

Wilson Phillips formed in Los Angeles in the late 1980s, bringing together Carnie and Wendy Wilson, daughters of Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, and their friend Chynna Phillips, whose father was John Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas.

Their sound leaned on close harmonies over straightforward pop arrangements, with songs like 'Release Me' and 'Impulsive' becoming radio staples. The pressure of sudden fame was difficult; Carnie and Wendy Wilson have spoken about dealing with eating disorders during that period, while Chynna Phillips faced personal struggles. Some critics dismissed the group as benefiting from their famous parents rather than standing on their own musical merits.

After their initial success, they released 'Shadows and Light' in 1992 and 'Dedicated' in 1994 before going on a long hiatus. They reunited occasionally, putting out 'The Time of Our Lives' in 2004. Their catalog includes tracks like 'Daniel' and 'You Won't See Me Cry,' which kept their harmonies at the center even as pop music trends shifted around them.
