Archive material and source history

Witch formed in England in 1969 from the remains of a band called The Tea Set. The original lineup included Keith Richards on guitar, Brian Blitzer on bass, and Alan Powell on drums. They had trouble getting a record deal at first, playing live shows while working out their sound.

They eventually signed with Vertigo and put out their self-titled debut album in 1971. The record had a heavy, doomy feel with lyrics that touched on occult themes. Songs like "Seer" and "Black Saint" showed their blend of blues-rock and darker, psychedelic atmospheres.

Their second album, "Service," didn't do as well. The band faced lineup changes and periods of inactivity through the 1970s, with both Powell and Richards leaving at different points. They recorded tracks like "Changing" and "Hand Of Glory" during this time, but the group eventually dissolved.
